Columbia Heights Main Street (CHMS) has organized a fun, pandemic-friendly holiday activity for residents: CHMS Holiday Lights!

The businesses within Columbia Heights Main Street will be decked out with holiday lights from December 1 to December 31. Residents are invited to wander the corridor to enjoy the holiday displays and promotions from local businesses.

Residents can find a list of participating businesses on the CHMS Holiday Lights website, which will also have an event calendar that will be updated throughout the month to feature holiday activities and promotions happening in the area.

After you’ve had a chance to explore, you can cast your vote for your favorite light displays to help determine the People’s Choice Award winner. Voting ends on December 14, and winners will be announced at a citywide DC Holiday Lights (Virtual) Awards Ceremony on December 16 at 6pm. The public is encouraged to attend.

“The true aim of Holiday Lights this year is to rally residents District-wide to support our small businesses this holiday season, in whatever ways they can,” explains Brianne Dornbush, Executive Director of District Bridges—the organization behind the Columbia Heights Main Street program. “Local businesses are the heartbeat of the District, and we’re in danger of losing the very businesses that make our city and neighborhoods so unique.”

Columbia Heights Main Street Holiday Lights is part of a broader, citywide DC Holiday Lights effort encouraging residents and visitors to shop small and explore the District this holiday season. In total, 12 corridors across the District are participating—including neighboring Mount Pleasant Main Street. All month long, you can participate in their citywide Holiday Lights Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win great prizes from local DC businesses!
