We know you’ve been waiting to break free of those four walls of your home and DC is helping you do just that with more and more recent reopenings and events! You can make summer of 2021 an unforgettable experience in the nation’s capital. July is full of a great mixture of in-person and virtual events as many of the city’s businesses and attractions begin to welcome visitors once again. Below, we’re giving you a list of the latest events happening in this beautiful city that are now ready for you to dive into! 

Outdoor Mini Festivals at the Kennedy Center: Weekends, Now through Oct. 2

This month, the Kennedy Center will begin holding three-day, outdoor mini festivals (Thursday – Saturday) curated by artists and organizations right here in the DC area. Visitors can enjoy a variety of things from films and live performances to art vendors and dance lessons on the 

Come Visit reopened DC museums:

Many of DC’s most beloved museums are ready to educate and excite the locals once again with capacity limits, timed ticket schedules and safety policies in place. The vast list of reopenings includes the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Portrait Gallery, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery, the National Gallery of Art (including its East Building), the National Museum of Natural History, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, the National Archives, the National Building Museum and Tudor Place. We and these locations are so excited to have you back! 

4th Annual Summer Movies on the Lawn: Now through Aug. 5th

The Library of Congress hosts this free outdoor film festival that features films in the Library’s prestigious National Film Registry! You are in for a treat, no matter what screening you attend outside of this beautifully historic building. Note that capacity will be limited and seating will be socially distanced for the safety of all. The festival closes out with the classic “Jurassic Park” on Aug. 5th. You don’t want to miss this! Saturday Farmer’s Market:

From April through December, produce farmers, flower sellers, taco-makers and local crafters set up shop on Saturday mornings on a paved plaza near the Metro station on 14th Street NW. Live music and kids activities like balloon-animal making add to the fun.

Enjoy South of the Border customs with the family:

In a beautiful, early 20th-century mansion that once was home to the Mexican Embassy, this museum and cultural center hosts art exhibits, concerts and beloved cooking classes given by PBS star and local resident Pati Jinich. A hand-painted mural that represents South of the Border history from ancient times through the present intricately decorates the ornate interior staircase as well. 

Instead of two feet, get out and about on two wheels:

Since it’s located at the top of a hill, Columbia Heights is easy to get around by bike. Simply head to the Capital Bikeshare station near the Metro stop and you and the family can enjoy the sights of the area and some exercise as well! 

Find entertainment at the historic Gala Theater:

Located in part of the restored Tivoli Theatre, one of the country’s oldest and most renowned Spanish-language theater groups entertains and regularly hosts visiting acts like Spanish flamenco dancers and Argentine musicians. They offer performances in Spanish and simultaneously in english as well. If you’re looking for a cultural experience the whole family will remember, come see this for yourself. 

Visit Bloombars:

Bloombars is a community center for arts and culture that frequently hosts events for the whole family and all ages.  They’ve been voted the Best Arts and Culture Nonprofit for six consecutive years by the Washington City Paper’s readers. Their calendar of events is always full of new activities and events so be sure to follow along! You can find everything from a film showing to ballet when you come visit this unique center.
