If you have been to the dog park recently, you may have noticed Makan’s sign for a “Yappy Hour.” But what is Yappy Hour?
Each Saturday, Makan offers a relaxing extension of Happy Hour, but with a unique twist. Each table with a dog will receive a complimentary small bowl of treats while you and your friends can relax with some fantastic drink specials. Although dogs are always welcome to dine outdoors at Makan, Yappy Hour provides a special time for you and your pup.
As Dhiandra Olson, Makan’s General Manager and Sommelier put it, Yappy Hour is a “two-hour extension of Happy Hour on Saturdays from 3 to 5 PM with free treats for your four-footed fur babies.” So now you can enjoy your own personal drink while your dog can relax with you.
Here are the drink specials:
- $6.00 Wine (White, Red, Rose, or Sparkling)
- $6.00 Rotating Draft Beer
- $4.00 Carlsberg Pilsner
- $10.00 Junglebird Cocktail
Yappy Hour started when one of the partners, a dog owner himself, was seen giving treats to the neighborhood dogs that passed by. Not long after, Patrick’s Pet Care provided Makan with water bowls, and soon it became part of the job to greet pups and their owners. Makan values its community and wanted to know their neighbors, even the furry ones. And that’s how the Saturday lull between brunch and dinner turned into Yappy Hour.
Makan plans to have additional special events and new menu features soon. They will be offering Chinese New Year specials and a ticketed dinner on Wednesday, February 10th. More information will be shared on Makan’s Instagram (@makan_dc), so be sure to give them a follow!
Makan believes in community and loves giving away treats and getting to know the neighborhood pups, so they will be continuing Yappy Hour into the foreseeable future.
