Shawarma Hut at 3657 Georgia Avenue NW is pretty tasty

About a month ago, Shawarma Hut opened in the old Petworth Cafe space at 3657 Georgia Avenue NW, next to Reliable Tavern. It’s a mostly takeout spot with Middle Eastern and Indian food, including a tandoor oven. A friend and I tried it for lunch the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I got the shawarma platter which comes with two kinds of meat, rice and a salad, and he got the chicken tikka. The platter was massive (I got gyro meat and chicken) and could easily be two meals, and was quite tasty. With a soda it was $13, so not too expensive. The chicken tikka was also pretty big (also with rice and salad, plus chickpeas) though my buddy thought it was a little under-seasoned. We didn’t get any sauce with it though, maybe that was the issue (make sure to ask.)

It’s a pretty solid lunch option, and is also open very late, to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights — good for a post bar snack. They deliver too via Grubhub and Seamless, and probably other services as well. They don’t have a website, but here’s their Yelp page.

And my favorite detail — their logo looks like a certain pizza chain with “Hut” in the name.
