It’s been quite a while, but the renovated Trolley Turnaround Park at 11th and Monroe is now open. Park View DC has the full story. There will be an official ribbon cutting March 3rd though we’ve been talking about fixing it up since at least 2008.
The new park has some playground equipment for kids, some chess/checkers tables, and some seats. In the past, people had expressed concern about the park, saying a bunch of drunks hung out there and made it so it wasn’t a family-friendly place. That spawned one of my favorite public meeting quotes, from 2008, in response to a woman saying it wasn’t a good place for families:
“Anonymous resident (self-described drunk who hangs out in the park): people in the park aren’t that bad, come on into the park, we welcome kids, we welcome the church.”
Hopefully the new design will make it more of an all-ages place. What do you think?
