The PEPCO Harvard Street Substation upgrade continues to progress. In the last two weeks the transformers have been removed, the historic façade has been cut and preserved, and demotion on the remaining buildings made significant progress. Protected pedestrian walkways are in place to allow access to Sherman Avenue.
PEPCO representatives regularly attend Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1A’s monthly meeting to provide updates and hear any community concerns. At a recent meeting the ANC discussed a need for further rat abatement before the demolition of major portions of the building.
Ultimately the project will install new high-capacity transformers, modernize the substation, connect to the larger new networked grid system, and preserve the historic elements of the building.
