Reliable Tavern from Joe Englert “nearly there” at Georgia and New Hampshire!

Looks like a new bar may be around the corner: Reliable Tavern from Joe Englert, who also opened a ton of other great bars and restaurants around town, is making progress.

Their Instagram and Facebook are full of photos with tags like “#nearlythere” and finishing touches like bathroom signs (gender neutral, in this case.) And in February they tweeted they’re opening in spring, so could be just around the corner.

The bar at 3655 Georgia Avenue NW used to be a hardware store, hence the name. Their liquor license says it will be a tavern with emphasis on food and a variety of live entertainment, such as trivia, comedy and televised sports.

Their hours are 10am-2am on Sunday, 9am-2am Monday-Thursday, and 9am-3am Saturday, so that presumably means they’ll have breakfast, brunch or at least coffee and such. I’ve reached out to get more info, will let you know when I hear.

Englert has been a mainstay in the city’s nightlife scene for a long time, having opened the Rock and Roll Hotel, the Pug, Granville Moore’s, Sticky Rice, the H Street Country Club and more on that street, as well as DC9, Trusty’s, the Big Hunt, Capitol Lounge, Pour House and others around town.
