You may have noticed the Mexican Cultural Institute, the Mexican Embassy’s cultural wing, at 2829 16th Street NW (at Harvard) — they have a really nice white mansion that was built in 1910.
If you’ve been meaning to pay them a visit, today is a good opportunity: they’re hosting an exhibit by early 20th century photographer Hugo Brehme, including a talk by Brehme expert and art scholar Susan Toomey Frost.

An avid collector, Susan Toomey Frost is a leading authority on Mexican and Guatemalan postcards. Her articles have appeared in publications in the United States, Mexico and Germany, as well as online at susanfrost.org.
Frost also collects “San José” decorative tiles and pottery from San Antonio and Mexico. The Texas State Historical Association named her tile book — COLORS ON CLAY: The San José Tile Workshops of San Antonio — as the best illustrated book on Texas history and culture. The book also won a publication award from the San Antonio Conservation Society.
Frost has taught English and linguistics at three universities in Texas and Mexico.
