The sub shop with a cult following is opening its fifth DC location today – Thursday, Sept 26th. The new Wawa is celebrating with a grand opening event at 4 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. and will be giving away t-shirts and limited edition Adams Morgan Wawa tumblers – while supplies last (which won’t be long)! They are also hosting a community lantern lighting to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) called Light the Night DC Walk. The chain is capping off the grand opening celebrations by giving away free coffees through Sunday, September 29th.

The new D.C. store will offer customers the best of all of Wawa’s newest food service offers, including new custom salads. Coffee will be free through Sunday, Sept. 29 in celebration of the grand opening.
Also, as an exclusive offer created specifically for the DC community, all Wawa DC stores will feature the Strawberry Sparkler “mocktail” – a sparkling strawberry, lemonade beverage for a limited time with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Light the Night DC.
During this landmark evening grand opening event, Wawa will be joined by local officials, heroes and community members for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. Highlights of the event will include:

Hoagies for Heroes hoagie building competition to see who can build the most hoagies in three minutes in the traditional Wawa way. Wawa will conclude the Hoagies for Heroes competitions by presenting checks for $1,000 on behalf of the winning and runner up teams to support Light the Night.

The new Wawa will be located in the heart of Adams Morgan – at 2424 18th St NW. While it seems not everyone in the neighborhood is thrilled with the new arrival, it is sure to be a hit with the late night crowd.
