Stromuhr! The 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee is underway at the Gaylord Hotel at National Harbor, and a local kid is in it: Donovan Jordan, who attends Howard University Middle School for Math and Science. Unfortunately he didn’t make it through to today, only the spellers with the highest scores from the previous round scores make it through. He did get “decorticate” right though, whatever that is.

The semifinals are underway right now on ESPN, and you can also follow it on Twitter. It’s pretty entertaining, plus the words can be crazy — check out the round 1 test.
