Located just a skip, hop, and a jump away from Columbia Heights, La Herradura Supermarket (3412 Georgia Ave NW) in Park View just celebrated its grand opening this past Sunday. It is a milestone more than 2 years in the making.
La Herradura is the latest project from Chef Gabriel Flores, the owner of Top Spanish Cafe & Catering (3541 Georgia Ave NW), which has been in the community for more than 20 years.
Flores says he wanted to bring something a bit different to the community with La Herradura. Inside, you’ll find the supermarket stocked to the brim with Spanish and Central American foods, beautiful fresh produce, and delicious baked goods.

“We want the community to be part of it,” shared Denia Dura, Operations Manager. They are hoping the community will provide input and suggestions for products they would like to see in the future.
While opening a new business during a pandemic likely was not their first choice, they are proud to be able to “provide more jobs in this unstable economy right now.”
The store itself is well-organized, brightly lit, and has social distance markers placed prominently throughout the store to help control the flow of traffic. The store also has a separate entrance and exit, which will help with traffic flow and social distancing during these tough times.
La Herradura is a welcome addition to the corridor. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, a couple who had stopped to peek in was overheard remarking, “it looks so nice in there!”
