We may be getting high-speed fiber optic Internet sooner rather than later: the other day my roommate noticed Verizon workers installing a new orange cable on the pole in the alley where all the TV and phone cords are now, and it looks a lot like a fiber optic cable. I’ve seen a number of Verizon vans around lately, an according to the Wash Biz Journal, FiOS will be available in some parts of the city next year, although it says Ward One will be after that. Verizon says Columbia Heights will be in the initial service area, which should be sometime in early 2011. That’s only a few months away, theoretically.
Assuming this is happening, I’m looking forward to it. The Internet now is not the most speedy or reliable for us, we have to reset the router regularly.
