Just yesterday, we wrote an article about The Coupe aiming to possibly reopen in October. Today new “Magnolia Cafe” signs have popped up on the doors, leaving neighbors to speculate if The Coupe plans to rebrand before reopening.
Our sources share that The Coupe is not rebranding—the new signage is the result of a movie being filmed on-site.
Here’s What We Know:

According to a current employee at the Tryst Trading Company, a new movie or film is being filmed at The Coupe this week. If you take a peak inside the doors, you’ll catch small glimpses of Christmas decorations around the restaurant, including a full Christmas tree adorning the entrance.
This is not the first time a movie has been filmed at The Coupe. In August of 2019, Former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama stopped into The Coupe, promoting their first Netflix documentary American Factory. The Coupe closed for a full day for that filming to take place.
Could we be expecting a Christmas Time film featuring The Coupe? After all, The Coupe boasts 6,390 square feet of space to work with and given that they have been closed since March 17 we wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve decided to lease the space for a potential film.
From what we know today, The Coupe is here to stay and you’ll probably be able to order a “Coupe Special” and your favorite latte again sometime in October. However, the next time you’ll see “Magnolia Cafe” it will probably be on film.
According to the owner, Constantine Stavropoulos, The Coupe aims to reopen in October, along with Open City at the National Cathedral.
