On Monday, June 22, DC officially entered Phase Two of reopening. Under the new Phase Two regulations, restaurants can allow a limited amount of indoor dining, non-essential retail stores can resume a reduced level of in-store service, and fitness facilities may reopen with limited access.
While some businesses were able to immediately embrace the new guidelines, many have been taking time to work out how to safely allow customers inside. In recent days, we have seen more and more businesses in the Columbia Heights area announce that they are open for business!

Went to Columbia Heights Plaza last night. It smelled awful, very dirty and people passed out. People aren’t going to want to go to those businesses if this can’t be controlled.
Concur, the neighborhood leadership has allowed the Plaza to become a defacto day camp for substance abusers who are filthy, leave their trash everywhere, drink, and pass out with their clothes half off. It is absolutely shameful what has become of that plaza and the area surrounding it in the last couple of years. An unwelcoming, filthy mess no one wants anything to do with.
I just read in the About section that this blog’s owner is on a committee to address vacant commercial property in the neighborhood. I haven’t seen District Bridges do much of anything that produces results, but one idea is perhaps cleaning up the Plaza so it is a desirable place to go and businesses actually want to invest there?
