Hmm. I hope this is good news. Jim Graham followed up with the Office of Tax and Revenue on the status of 1483 Newton Street NW, the big abandoned apartment building I’ve written about before: the back taxes, which were upwards of $130,000, were paid off on April 20, 2011, which means the building won’t go up for tax sale.
I would hope that you wouldn’t pay that much money on a building just to let it sit vacant, so maybe they’re going to sell it or fix it up. Let’s hope, as this place is a real eyesore and a waste of a potentially nice building. I’ve got some feelers out to see if I can get more info, we’ll see. Fingers crossed.
UPDATE: DCRA reports that the building was ordered condemned and are waiting for a report from the inspection team, and that the building owners are planning to make a decision on whether to sell or develop the building in a few weeks. Let’s hope.
