Acre 121, together with Pick-up Productions, has brought together a stellar group of bands for the holiday honoring Ireland’s patron saint. The St. Patrick’s Day lineup highlights local bluegrass and the genre’s Celtic American roots, and kicks off an ongoing roster of acts showcasing the burgeoning musical talent in and around Washington, D.C.
The celebration begins at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 17, with traditional bagpipers encouraging the revelry, while Ireland takes on England in the 6 Nations Rugby Tournament. Then the lights go up and the bands take over. The lineup includes folk guitarist Jonathan James playing Celtic instrumentals and pub songs; Kate Moran Band bringing a little funk and a bit of soul; and the Sligo Creek Stompers, who kick off the live show with a raucous blend of Appalachian bluegrass, New Orleans ragtime, and Irish fiddle. A local favorite, the Stompers are bringing a bit of “good craic” regularly to Columbia Heights, with a series of shows at Acre 121 the second Thursday of every month.
Acre 121 is thrilled to be a partnered with so many talented performers dedicated to furthering the music scene in DC. The barroom brings savory Southern barbecue to Columbia Heights and strives to compliment the low country flavor with area artists performing a mix of traditional bluegrass, alt-country, and folk rock. The St. Patrick’s Day menu features Guinness battered fish & chips, corned beef and cabbage, and Irish smoked salmon, in addition to the succulent pulled pork that chefs Michael Soper and Christine Cullen are known for.
