This sounds like an awesome event for families with kids: the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library is putting on Punk Farm Family Fun Day on Sunday, complete with music, stories and history of DC punk rock.
This stems from a new effort at the DC Public Library, which is organizing the DC Punk Archive to maintain and display items from DC (and Columbia Heights’) rich history of hardcore and punk rock music. And this event is one way to experience it first hand and pass it on to your children.
Here’s more on our neighborhood’s seminal place in music history: the St. Stephen’s Church and the Wilson Center (today Capital Public Charter School) were both really important venues for punk and other kinds of music, with bands like Fugazi, Dismemberment Plan, Black Flag and a lot more playing there (and in some cases, getting their start there.)
