The city’s pool season is underway, and I got a nice surprise when I went to Banneker Pool at Georgia and Euclid on Sunday: there’s now a little snack bar and a few canopies for shade. The snack bar is run by the folks from the Georgia Ave. Frozen-Yo location and has pre-packed froyo, Nathan’s hot dogs, nachos and drinks like soda, Gatorade and water.
The main pool building is open too and appears to have been renovated. You enter through the main entrance now rather than the weird basement entrance before. The shower areas also looked a lot nicer.
But I’m most excited about the snack bar, which is something I’ve wanted for years. It’s annoying to have to leave to get something to eat from McDonald’s or something, and if you bring your own water it often gets hot. Plus I hope it raises some money for the city.
The pool is currently only open weekends, but opens every day but Thursday starting on June 20!
