Some news for southern Columbia Heights: La Colombe Torrefaction, the fancy coffee shop and roasting company from Philly with a few DC locations and a bar from the folks behind Bedrock Billiards will be opening in the Manhattan Laundry development near 14th and Florida. BadWolfDC reports La Colombe is opening by the end of June at 1346 Florida, in the building above, but I don’t have any info on the bar.
The La Colombe building is an old brick warehouse attached to the glass-walled and really awesome looking Manhattan Laundry, which has previously been a school and of course a laundry, and was recently redeveloped by Douglas Development.
The Douglas site says there’s also a WeWork coworking space coming, plus the bar of some kind from Bedrock Bars, who have also opened Bedrock Billiards, Atomic Billiards, Carpool, Buffalo Billiards, Rocket Bar, the Continental and a lot more. Some of those are relaxed, neighborhoody spots, like Bedrock, while some are big and happening, like Buffalo and Rocket Bar.
The coffee shop seems like perfect timing, on Friday I wrote about coffee shops and how it seems like there is a lack of them in the southern part of our neighborhood. Now there’s a popular one coming.
BadWolf reports it will be the biggest La Colombe in the city so far with 40 seats.
