This is pretty crazy and unexpected: Meridian Pint is ending its 9 year run at 11th and Park and will be closing Sunday, April 21 and moving to Arlington.
I didn’t receive a press release about it, but on Twitter they say “It’s with a heavy heart that we will be saying goodbye to Columbia Heights,” and DCist reports on a press release sent to PoP:
“During the last 9 years a lot has changed in regards to the evolving needs of our staff, our customers, our lives and our city,” owner John Andrade wrote in an announcement published by Popville. “With change comes new opportunities for us all to grow in different directions. Therefore, we are very excited to announce that Meridian Pint will be moving to Arlington, VA to expand our passion for American craft beer into Northern Virginia.
They will be having a final Easter Brunch on Sunday and will close at 4 pm.
I didn’t see this coming, the place always seems to have a good crowd. Then again, Andrade has closed places before and reopened them — he owned Asylum on 18th Street, then closed it and reopened as Smoke & Barrel (which is also good.) Maybe there is more money in Arlington, rent increased, or something else. I’ve reached out for more info, and for info on what else might go into that space.
11th Street has seen a lot of change lately: Maple and the Good Silver closed, though both are being replaced: Maple will become Ossobucco Ristorante and Queen’s English is filling the Good Silver space.
Meridian Pint is survived by Brookland Pint on 12th Street NE, Smoke & Barrel in Adams Morgan, and some places in Virginia.
UPDATE: I just found that the building is for sale. That might have something to do with it. The building is currently owed by an LLC related to District Design and Development.
